Flooding Leaves Hackensack Drivers Stranded

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Some drivers in Hackensack were stranded due to flooding.

Nearly six inches of water had accumulated as of Tuesday morning in the back of the parking lot at Retro Fitness in Hackensack. Members and employees moved their cars to avoid water damage. Some returned back inside, afraid to flood their cars.

Stretches of River Street and spots along Commerce Way behind Staples were covered with nearly six inches of water, and it's only going to get worse.

Employees of Retro Fitness Hackensack moved their cars to avoid further damage, and some members headed back inside the gym -- hoping to see the water go down before leaving.

The area routinely floods after rain or snow because of overflow from the Hackensack River. Last year, at least two cars died after trying to make it through the puddles that accumulated by the foot of the gym's driveway.
